Description & Requirements 

Reporting into the  Manager, Global Regulatory Compliance, the Global Chemicals Management Lead provides functional support to mitigate legal and brand risk by creating and managing systems and processes that address regulatory compliance and beyond compliance initiatives related to chemicals in products and in manufacturing.


Core Accountabilities

Chemicals Regulatory Expertise

  • Engineer, execute and monitor strategies and processes to reduce monetary, legal and brand risks associated with chemical regulations and chemical safety issues across all product categories and at supplier/facility level.
  • Maintain knowledge of international, federal and provincial chemical-related legislation and regulations governing the marketing and sale of consumer products
    • Complete research and analysis to determine impacts to lululemon’s business from impending chemical compliance, regulatory or legislative changes

Chemicals Compliance

  • Develop and maintain a Restricted Substances List (RSL) and RSL Test Matrix for lululemon, through internal and external collaboration
    • Accountable for lululemon’s RSL and expansion of restrictions or other compliance practices
    • Develop and implement RSL training program for lululemon’s suppliers
  • Work cross-functionally and with external partners to build and deliver information on key chemical regulatory and product safety topics, including: chemical restrictions, chemical reporting, biocidal product claims and regulations, and document retention
  • Participate in industry groups to influence and collaborate on chemical compliance best practices from both product and facility level
  • Own and manage key strategic relationships with external counsel, consultants and third party service providers


Special Projects

  • Provide expertise in support of lululemon Be Planet Goals


Required Skills, Experience and Academic/Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, engineering, textile science, environmental science, or related field
  •  3-5 years experience working in a testing, quality, sustainability, product safety, or regulatory/legal function, or an advanced degree in a related field. Experience in apparel/textile sector is an asset
  • Demonstrated expertise in quickly understanding  and interpreting scientific and technical details
  • Demonstrated success in implementing and managing technical processes within an organization
  • Experience with national and/or international chemical laws and regulations applicable to adult and accessories, self-care, foods, electronics and equipment
  • Experience with regulatory, government and industry or standards organizations
  • Expert interpersonal and communication skills, including experience presenting to senior management, superior writing skills, and the ability to work within cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment using quantitative and qualitative data
  • Works independently, with a high degree of ambiguity and uncertainty
  • Maintains a high degree of professionalism and integrity in dealing with stakeholders
  • Previous Project Management experience is desired
  • Previous experience with the development and implementation of an RSL is desired
  • Background in product testing and compliance an asset
  • Proven ability to excel in a highly collaborative environment
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, problem solve under pressure and tight timelines, escalate issues as needed and support leadership with strategic analysis and decision-making
  • Jump in and go, adapt quickly, learn from failures and move forward
  • A team player that truly believes they are successful when the organization is successful
